There is no single undisputed original quinterne from the 15th-century, that could serve as the basis for a faithful copy.
This is based on the historical illustration of the „Pala di San Marco,” Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Venice, painted by Bartolomeo Vivarin, 1474.

The quinterne from the Wartburg Museum, obtained from Hans Ott in, 1450, was also consulted for this construction. However, Hans Ott's quinterne cannot be assumed to now possess its original soundboard, due to bars visible in X-ray images and its raised rosette.
Sources of inspiration:
- various collected historical illustrations
- Quinterne from Elbing (Poland) - latrine find, ca. 1350-1450
Original spruce soundboards were made without edge inlays or with a parchment-bound edge. For pragmatic reasons (edge protection, interior repairs), I recommend a discreet edge inlay.
